Join us for a Cretan “parea” (gathering) at the warm and intimate stage of the Harrison, on Friday the 27th of January.

The trio of George Angelopoulos (mandolin), Simon Mercouris (Cretan laouto) and Miltos Boumis (Cretan laouto) is joined by the great violinist Uilleac Whelan, to perform songs from various regions of Crete.

From the seated folk songs of the urban centers of the island, to the traditional melodies and dance rhythms that characterize the celebratory feasts of the rural Cretan sea-side and mountain regions, we have picked a programme which speaks to our soul.

Many people might not realize how important the violin is for Cretan music, being more popular than the Cretan lyra in certain regions of the island. Uilleac has been living in Crete for several years, exploring various Cretan violin styles and we are very excited to have him for this gig in London. Do not miss this special gig!
