Having released the debut album ‘Gold Has Worn Away’ with his new power trio – Benji Kirkpatrick & The Excess – in 2019, Benji strips it all back for a purely acoustic performance. With a mastery of multiple instruments, he brings well-crafted songs of social commentary, personal exploration and environmental concern.
Well known as a rhythmic driver of such folk acts as Bellowhead and Faustus, Benji has been at the forefront of the folk and roots scene for many years, appearing alongside the likes of Seth Lakeman, Oysterband and Maddy Prior as well as recently being drafted into the line-up of folk-rock legends, Steeleye Span. With a smattering of songs from Benji’s 2015 acoustic re-imagining of music by his first musical icon ‘Hendrix Songs’, this will be a rare chance to see this fretboard wizard up close and personal.
“Sometimes contemporary, sometimes splendidly 70s, all new songs and a breath of fresh air.” Nick Dalton,Record Collector, of ‘Gold Has Worn Away’.
“Gold Has Worn Away is a dynamic and powerful roots-rock album for our age” – David Kidman, Fatea.
