Alvorada are the UK’s leading performers of choro, a rich and uplifting style of instrumental music from Rio de Janeiro. Alvorada explore influences from all over Brazil, playing choros with the irresistible swing of samba and maxixe from the South to baião from the Northeast, all with an immediacy and vibrancy that delights audiences everywhere.
Alvorada’s debut album First Light, released in May 2019, contains choro classics and original works, revisiting the genre with influences from the UK. The tight-knit quintet have performed at festivals and venues across the UK and beyond, recently selling out London Jazz Festival, Pizza Express Live and Paris International Choro Festival. Alvorada won both the LUKAS and the Focus Brasil awards for ”Best Brazilian Band”.
After many years playing together in London’s rodas de choro, Alvorada formed in 2016 to bring choro to the wider UK stage. Alvorada unites top musicians from London and Brazil, whose diverse backgrounds – including jazz, classical and Brazilian music – lend the group a unique and innovative sound.
