Rebetiko is a genre of urban Greek folk music that emerged in the early 20th century, often called the “Greek blues”. Originating from marginalized, working-class communities, blending Greek, Ottoman, and Balkan influences…

Based in the heart of London, Sevdalides is a Greek rebetiko trio brought together by a shared longing for home and a deep love for the “blues” of the Aegean.

The name “Sevdalides” comes from the Greek word sevdas — that burning feeling of love and passion. For us, it’s more than just a name; it sums up what we’re about. Our connection to the music, our friendship, and the stories carried in rebetiko songs all sit right at the centre of what we do.

Living away from Greece and Cyprus, we originally came together as a way to feel closer to where we’re from. Playing this music helps ease that distance — turning nostalgia into something alive, something we can share.

At our core we’re a trio, but we see music as something that’s meant to bring people together. We’re always keen to meet others and often collaborate with musicians from Greece and Cyprus, across Europe, and in the United States.

At the end of the day, Sevdalides is about connection. Whether we’re working with artists from abroad or playing to a local crowd, we’re just here to share good music and bring people together.
