"Emma Black learned her craft as a busker in Amsterdam and Berlin, living on the streets of major European cities, she started to describe life in the 'under belly of society' through song. After turning down a major record deal with her band The Immigrants in the mid-nineties she continued living on the edges of society, in a two-wheeled catering truck on Levenshulme common in Manchester, down the Llyn peninsular in Wales growing vegetables and on occasion, traveling the road.
In that time she alternated music as a career with conservation work (something she still does) playing occasional intimate shows to initiates and converts around Europe rather than pursuing the mainstream.
Over the next ten or so years, she built herself a loyal following who have stuck with the evolving sound and direction that led her to record her debut album in 2007 " Where Dark Horses Roam"
Scince her debut album was released, Emma has played four national tours in the Netherlands and performed across the UK.
Over the years, Emma has opened up for a diverse range of acts including The Indigo Girls at the Boardwalk in Manchester...Salif Keetah at the Royal Court, Liverpool..Hugh Masekla at The Grand Clapham...and more recently, The Zombies, Dr Feelgood and Royal Wood in the Netherlands and Nancy Kerr and James Fagan at Cambridge Folk Club"
James Hollingsworth at The Queens Head, Wolverley, Kidderminster, Worcestershire
"James Hollingsworth’s main stage set on the Saturday afternoon of the festival ranged from what was grounded in the traditional – a voice buzzing in the ear, the familiar plucked guitar – to what seemed to border on the celestial, as both voice and a much effected, but delicately measured, acoustic guitar swept back and forth across the arena. James’ performance was captivating…truly so, as many followed him to the intimate surroundings of the Bar Stage later in the afternoon, where an equally diverse mixture of songs and styles was in evidence." - Abbey Mill Folk Festival, 2006

Session A9 at Woodend Barn, Burn o' Bennie, Banchory, Aberdeenshire
"Described as the best band to come out of Scotland in 100 years, this eight piece includes members from Capercaillie, the Peatbog Faeries, Boys of the Lough and Fiddlers' Bid. The band's balance of their instrumentation; four fiddles ranged against guitars, piano, accordion and drums brings a multi-layered sophistication and creates a rich panoply of harmony, countermelody, cross-rhythms and complementary textures to their unbeatably rambunctious jigs, reels and jaggy Balkan-style dance tunes."

Wendy Arrowsmith at The Bridge Folk Club, Newcastle Upon Tyne
"Born and raised in the suburbs of Glasgow, Wendy’s musical influences as a child were mostly Trad Jazz or Church hymns! Although she learnt Burns and other traditional Scottish songs at school, it wasn’t until she moved to England to marry that she began to really delve into traditional folk music. Wendy has sung many different styles of music – ranging from large scale classical choral works, operetta and musicals to backing vocalist for a prog rock band! But with folk music she has found songs that come from the heart and allow great emotional expression and social commentary. She describes herself as “a singer who plays guitar”, but this shouldn’t detract from Wendy’s musical abilities not just on guitar, but also on whistles, bodhran, mandolin and most recently accordion."

Martin Carthy at The Green Note, Camden, London
`Arguably the greatest English folk song performer, writer, collector and editor of them all' Q Magazine (2004)
For more than 40 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music's greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures. His skill, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene, but also far beyond it.
Trailblazing musical partnerships with, amongst others, Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick and his award-winning wife (Norma Waterson) and daughter Eliza Carthy have resulted in more than 40 albums, but Martin has only recorded 10 solo albums, of which the much anticipated Waiting for Angels (Topic TSCD527) is the latest. Whether in the folk clubs (which he continues to champion), on the concert stage or making TV appearances (he was the subject of the acclaimed `Originals' music documentary strand on BBC 2) - there are few roles that Martin Carthy hasn't played.

Wendy Arrowsmith at The Star Folk Club, Glasgow

As his love of music developed, he experimented with a wide range of instruments including guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bowed psaltery, bones, bandura, various guitar synths, and the sitar (he admits faring less well with drums and the trumpet). After dropping out of Kent University "to become a medieval minstrel" his musical career included playing in many groups including Fiddler's Dram (founded by Dave Arbus of East of Eden). Alan's main instrument is the guitar and he has a reputation among fellow musicians as a perfectionist, renowned for his prolific practice. His musical influences are wide-ranging - from medieval music to the American South, from pop and rock to Britain's folk-revival guitarists. He subsequently had a stint in Ashley Hutchings' Albion Band but is best known as a founding member of The Oyster Ceilidh Band (later Oysterband). He has been the group's guitarist/vocalist for thirty-odd years and his trademark playing is an essential part of Oysterband's distinctive sound.
