Compass Duo (Karoliine-Lisette Kõiv (fiddle and vocals) and Stuart Ironside (guitar and vocals)) are a folk duo from Estonia and the U.K., finding links between the Nordic-Baltic region and the British Isles through their tunes and songs. With both of them having feet in multiple musical worlds, they bring music from the Nordic, Baltic and British nations together with grooves from jazz and African music in a cultural melting pot that will inspire. The dance tunes are groovy and the songs will break your heart, but you will be amazed at the sounds these two can create.

Karoliine and Stuart met for the first time in 2022 at the ETHNO Estonia music camp, where they immediately clicked after discovering they unexpectedly shared a lot of common repertoire. Having been friends for a long time now, they have decided to take on the challenge of finding common traits in English and Estonian folk music. Together, they have combed through a large number of different folk songs to find similar stories, melodies, decorations and narrative – they have even found songs that have travelled from one place to another throughout history.

Elye Cuthbertson is bringing a new sound to the folk scene with his unique approach to the melodeon. Elye has been immersing himself in English folk music for 10 years under the guidance of some of the finest teachers of the tradition. Combining this English folk experience with his passion for Balfolk and other traditions from throughout Europe, his compositions reflect his varied influences. Elye’s skill and inventiveness has been demonstrated through performances around the country, including his own concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Elye’s 2024 EP, Two Rainy Days, showcases his unusual style of melodeon playing and innovative tune writing.
